Arg! Funky Display and Graphic Card Hell!
Alright so it starts off that we just dumped a new Kn8 Abit motherboard into our system and tried out the new Nvidia 7900 GTX. We were originally going to SLI two cards but had major problems with the 7900 card due to it being rediculously overclocked out of the box by EVGA. So after about 500 crashes and nearly splitting my keyboard into two I call up EVGA and the technician tells me to UNDERCLOCK the card in order to get it stable. So I'm pissed that im sitting here with a high grade card being told to crap down my performance because of the card being unstable at their promised clock speeds. So we RMA the card and instead go ATI and throw a radeon 1900x GT into my system. Card and all the features work perfect, even though it was an Nvidia chipset to start. So anyway problems pop up when I throw on guild wars. I max everything out, the card is set at its stock speed with all the nice options turned up. First problem is that a one pixel white border suddenly pops up around the lining of my monitor. Second problem I see is some artificing appearing on some of the game's menus in the form of tiny red lines dancing around my menus. I have no idea how to get rid of these bastard white lines and the mild artificing is aggrivating me. Theres no reason this crap should be popping up on such a low req game, especially since the ATi card isn't OC'ed at all.
To solve the issue I've already:
~D/l and used the latest catalyst ATI drivers
~ALL the drivers on my machine are updated
~Running on a 550 Watt PSU with an aux cable just for the card. Power is not an issue.
~Running Abit's sensory programs and have 3 huge fans cooling the system, not including the ATI card' own fan. The whole tower runs at an average of 38C.
~Memtested ALL the mem sticks and have 4 gigs of DDRAM onboard. We did this one by on in different sockets, mem and the motherboard checked ok. We are also running on an Althon FX 60 proc.
~Completely wiped the HD, reflashed the BIOS, etc.
On a further note, after minimizing guild wars and reopening the program I found a huge graphical error. Some wierd stuff, major artificing if you want to call it that. The graphics just plain crapped out (using the ATI card). Some pics are included at the end of this if you want to see the horror.
I'm tired, pissed, aggrivated. Gone through 2 of the best cards you can buy we have a well set system and we can't get this simple game to run with no gltiches. Any help on this would be appreciated.
